The Face That Must Die (Hidden Page)

This book is about a paranoid homophobic murderer.  That may not sound too funny, but in the book it really kind of is.  It's also horrifying and tragic.  The book is not blatantly anti- or pro-gay, the matter is explored a bit, but the morality of it is not a central theme.

Here's a couple of my favorite quotes from it.

"He surveyed the enemy.  A few people sat alone, drinking morosely.  Mightn't they be connected, perhaps communicating by signs?  They looked secretive enough.  Whenever he caught one of them gazing the gazer glanced quickly away.  Were they homosexuals, or police?  He suspected there wasn't much of a difference."

"It all made perfect sense.  She was married to the creature with the long hair, or living with him and pretending to be married: he remembered the names he had copied down.  Their conversation showed how corrupt the creature was.  Had Craig maintained a hold on him through drugs?  Would homosexuals wear beards?  They might, to confuse people."

There are plenty more, including a very funny misunderstanding which spans a few pages, but its all too contextual to be written here.  Just go read it.
