Thoughts on Primer Scenes

Okay so seriously don't look at this page if you haven't seen the movie.  Shew!  The following are my speculations on certain points in the film, and things that I find interesting.  I am by no means stating that everything here is absolutely true of the film, and am entirely open to correction.

First, let's start with the ending.  Throughout the movie Aaron shows his interest in making a bigger box, why?  Well, he (more so than Abe) is obsessed with power.  The last shot is him giving instructions to a work crew through a French language interpreter.  We don't know exactly where he is but we can assume it's some foreign country.  They are building a bigger box, one you could practically live in.  What will he do with it? I think he is going to try to become a world power of some kind, start a country, perhaps even take over the earth if he can.  Will the other Aarons and Abes that have amassed since the beginning of the film be there to stop him?  Will multiple Aarons rise up and enter into global war with one another?  This would undoubtedly be cheesy if shown in the movie, but it's fun to imagine what might have been if it had been an on-going series.  (Not that I think in anyway it should have been.)

The narrator (one of the Aarons) implies pretty heavily that the first Aaron eventually did try the plan about punching Joesph Platt in the face.  Not only is that scene not in the movie, but Joseph Platt himself is never even shown!  I don't know why that is so cool to me, but it is.  They never even say it is his boss.  Fascinating.

The fact that some of their histories are lost to best guesses is really interesting.  I love the line that goes something like, "If it only took one more time, I can almost sleep at night."

Carruth said that he couldn't stand most of the actors who came in auditioning for the part of Aaron, though he was really happy with the actor who played Abe.  He thought the prospective leads were treating the character too dramatically, and decided to just play the role himself.

In regards to the scene where Granger is following them near the end of the movie Carruth says there really is no way to know which one of them let Granger know about the boxes because it's in a lost timeline, but his opinion is that only Abe would do it, and that the most likely scenario would be Rachel getting into serious trouble.  It would be interesting to be able to see that timeline.

It's too big for the page, but this graph is useful:

It's easy to forget that the newest Aaron is on the phone the whole movie, listening to the narration, not saying anything.  Try to imagine what he's thinking and what he will do with the knowledge.  Do you think he would ever kill Abe?  I'm not sure.

Finally, the last two times I watched it I noticed there are a couple of lines about vinyl LPs, and for some reason that makes me happy.
